Sega Genesis Classics (Sega Mega Drive Classics in PAL regions) is a compilation title featuring Sega Genesis games released for home consoles on May 29, 2018. Sega released a free application on Steam on April 28, 2016, called the Sega Genesis Classics Hub (Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub in PAL regions). The main menu is themed after a bedroom of a Sega fanatic with various Sega related decor, a bookshelf full of Sega Genesis games, and a CRT TV with a Genesis plugged in.
collection of 58 Sega Genesis games
It is a collection of 58 Sega Genesis games Or Mega Drive for European players. I am missing some obvious classics, but Sadly not everything is owned by Sega, Because if it where they would be included in this collection. Sega really went all out and made the best emulator they could, With tons of features and even Online multiplayer. You can play through the 58 games like normal, but you can also save states, speed up the game or mirror it completely to make it feel new, There are also a lot of challenges which place you in the middle of pre set save states. Like surviving a tough boss with only a knife or only 10% HP, some require you to get certain scores or finish within a certain time limit. But some games sure belong to the best games ever made. Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
Just getting the complete pack is cheaper than buying these games seperately. So I would recommend just buying them all. Just Sonic 3 and Knuckles is worth it in my perspective. The Complete collection has 1 game without Linux support that’s why the store page does not list Linux support. This game is Sonic CD, And it truly is a shame this one is not included in the emulator. It also is a great game, but sadly it is a seperate game that does not have a Native Linux port. It works with proton tho it has a gold rating so it requires some tweaking. I really love how Sega really added to the experience with the challenges and the emulator tweaks, One thing I do not like very much is the Virtual Room, The menu is like a 3D room of the 90s,
Sega’s best title from the 80/90’s era.
SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics is an handpicked collection of Sega’s best title from the 80/90’s era. In the base game, you are in a “virtual bedroom”. You pick a cartridge from a shelf and put it inside an old Genesis console. Then the action starts on the TV. This concept is really cool because this virtual bedroom is stylized in 80/90’s decoration. The TV has a VCR into it. There’s an old rotary telephone on the ground. Posters from some of the games available are hanging on the walls. For an old nerd like me, this play on my nostalgia’s string a lot. To add an even cooler modern touch, the madlads at Sega made this room available for VR headsets. It may be an unnecessary feature but I think it’s pretty rad and cool. Not cool enough? Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade
Oh yeah, they added Online to some of these games so you can play most 2-player games online with people. This feature alone shows Sega gives a damn about their products and their audience. This Sega collection packs a total of 58 games. I will be honest here. Some of these games are classics, some of these games are average and some of these game are so bad, the Angry Video Game Nerd could make more episode of out them. (One of his recent upload was Ecco The Dolphin XD). However, I think it’s an important part of experiencing history itself, to try the good, the bad and the ugly games, so you can pinpoint yourself what games you like the most and add them to your favorite. Playing those really bad games will make you appreciate the decent and better games.
What you get here is a customized emulator for several classic games that provides simplified settings menus (menus look like game menus instead of emulator settings) within a nice 3D approximation of some bedroom some 90s kid may have had. The coolest thing about this is seeing the games you’ve purchased lined up on a shelf while being given the option to select between them. All game switching, loading, etc is done from within the 3D environment, which makes it extremely easy to play 1 game, save your progress, and switch to something else. Overall, I like the experience I’ve paid for over simply grabbing the game files online and loading up an emulator. I missed out on the whole SEGA Genesis era, so I can’t speak much to nostalgia aside from the few games I’ve previously played. Mega Man X Legacy Collection
I’ve encountered no real issues so far in terms of the performance of the games I’ve purchased. It is very cool, but it should be optional in my eyes, It takes up a lot of resources for playing 16 bit games. The Online multiplayer is the most impressive, It really shows Sega tried to make something special out of it, Ofcourse Local multiplayer works too. I am not sure if you can run other genesis games using this emulator, I do know you can use the included roms in any genesis emulator, So if you really don’t like the Virtual Room then at least it is a chance to buy these roms legally. sound great. best feature is the rewind/playback feature. best played with controller so you have quick access to the quick save/load & rewind buttons.
